How do I obtain a race license?

With our experience and knowledge we can guide you through this relatively straightforward process.

We recommend that you purchase the starter pack supplied by the governing body, The Motorsports Association, or from one of the members of the Association of Racing Car Drivers. This will provide you with a full and comprehensive guide on the process and what is required of you.

The starter pack costs around £105.00. This includes an application form and a DVD. The DVD provides you with all of the information needed in order for you to pass the test, including the basic rules, and flag signals.  The test is taken in two parts, the practical, and the theory test, which is multiple choice covering a range of subjects and regulations.

Once you are confident that you have absorbed all of the relevant information, the ARDS test can be booked at one of the member schools, (details of which can be found in your starter pack). The cost of the test is around £200.00, depending on which centre you attend.

Applicants over the age of 18 will be required to complete a medical prior to taking the ARDS test. This is a very straightforward process and can be done at your GP’s surgery. The approximate cost of the medical is around £120.00.

Once you have completed the above steps you are required to send your documents to the MSA (Motor Sport Association), along with a cheque for £60.00. Once you have received your license you are race ready!

Please note that is a legal requirement for you to renew your medical check and your race license every year.
